Age spots on the skin called the benign and harmless pigment disorder of the skin. By physicians, the stains are lentigines known solar senility or lentigines. The yellowish brown to dark-brown pigment stains are sharply defined and occurs on the parts of the body that are exposed to the Sun: the age spots are in your face, décolleté, arms and hands to see.

Age spots occur more frequently in people aged 40 and over, from 60, are considered as normal. The pigmentary can be tiny small up to a few centimeters tall and have a roundish or oval shape. Age spots are only slightly paler in winter. For the removal of age spots, there are many funds against age spots and different methods with pros and cons.

Remove age spots with the laser

Against age spots laser treatment is considered the most effective method. The laser creates a beam of light with high intensity, which penetrates into the upper layers of the skin and destroys the pigment deposits. It comes to inflammation and the destroyed pigments are transported through the body. After therapy is comparable to a sunburn in the treated areas for a few days, a burning feeling. In part, the treatment causes also swelling. After about two weeks everything should be healed. Is the skin during the inflammatory phase ultraviolet radiation is exposed, such as sunbathing, it possible that the healing is accompanied by brown pigmentation. It is also possible that a too intensive laser treatment leaves a bright, too little pigmented spot. Some places must be treated a second time. Before the area is treated, the doctor make sure that there is no skin disease.

The costs of this method be 25 to 65 euros, many doctors charge a flat rate. Generally, this treatment is not paid by the health insurance fund.

Experienced cosmetic Studios offer the removal of age spots with the so-called Flash lamp - the IPL technology. The disturbing pigments are used from the high-energy, intense pulsed light. Where the melanin in the skin is present, the light is absorbed and transformed into heat. It destroys the cell structure of the age spots. The costs here depending on the area to be treated between 80 and 300 Euro per session.

Cream for age spots

Creams against age spots are based mostly on the principle of a skin bleaching. These are fitted with active ingredients, which should lighten pigmentation problems or reduce the pigment formation. The active ingredients include hydroquinone, Kojic acid and Rucinol, watercress extract. Patience is needed in the treatment, an effect can be determined only after a few weeks. Not everyone can withstand the creams, sometimes the skin reacts with redness or irritation. The remedy should be applied also only on the patch, because otherwise unintentionally also the adjacent area of the skin is brightened and the skin may react permanently with an irregular pigmentation. The bleaching creams are available from 25 euro.

Fruit acid or chemical peel against age spots

Chemical methods, especially the use of acids, ensure that the top layers of the skin are replaced and the skin in the peels. In the wake of the upper layers of skin grow back.

Fruit acid peeling

Fruit acids are weak acids, which are found in low concentrations in face creams. This can be used daily, they result in only the top layer of skin. The pigments are usually only slightly bleached with the treatment and not permanently removed. Depending on the required frequency of treatments and the spread of spots, the treatment between 150 and 400 euros costs.

Chemical peel

Chemical Peeling has higher concentrated fruit acids or strong acids such as trichloroacetic acid (TCA). Trichloroacetic acid concentrated at higher, the danger is that it reaches in the dermis. Trichloroacetic acid peels are primarily in the treatment of wrinkles and used acne scars, age spots disappear with this therapy but also. The medium and the deep peeling extremely irritating the skin, this is even a big wound, which resembles a large abrasion. Until the skin irritation subsiding several days after a medium-deep exfoliation, the deep peeling, it takes about three weeks, with the associated risk for infections of the skin during the time of irritation. In the next few weeks, the skin remains sensitive.

Grinding and cold treatment

The top layers of the skin are polished for a dermabrasion under local anesthesia with a kind of fine milling machine.

The cold therapy is called also Kryopeeling or cryotherapy. Here, the surface of the skin with liquid nitrogen is iced up. In the treated skin area, the upper skin cells die off and there is a bubble.

Both procedures ensure that the epidermis is new. The skin is reddened in the wake of several weeks. Sometimes it also happens that she looks even blotchy after treatment than before. These procedures are too much can cause also a scar formation. For the controversial procedure costs between 100 and 500 euros.

- Bestimmte Farbstoffe
- Bestimmte Konservierungsmittel
- krebserzeugende Amine
- polyzyklische aromatische Kohlenwasserstoffe

Details dazu siehe: Council fo Europe: http://www.coe.int/t/e/social_cohesion/soc-sp/resap_2008_1%20e.pdf
